H-1B Visa: Overview and Current Issues

H-1B visa is a type of visa in United States of America given to foreign employees for specialty work areas for a period of up to six years. H-1B visa is very dependent on the US employer but in cases where the employee resigned or was suspended from work, he/she should apply for work for another US employer or else, he/she must leave the US.

However, there is an emerging amendment in the US to ban H-1B visas so as to prioritize American workforce. According to the US senators who propose this amendment to ban H-1B visas, they would like US employers to prioritize American professionals and skilled workers over other nationalities. But H-1B visa program is never meant to replace them; it states that H-1B visa should only be given by employers when no specialty workers are available. So the provision to totally ban the issuance of H-1B visa is not acceptable. Maybe, it would be better if they should just ensure that the issuance of these types of visas is properly controlled and only given when necessary.
